A History of Porsche
Porsche designs, builds and sells autos. The company is known for its expert engineering, elegant auto designs and high-end, "status symbol" image. Today, we'd like to share information about Porsche and its history. The company has been around for a long time and it continues to inspire and intrigue buyers and auto fans in general, by producing sleek and ultra-modern vehicles with sports elements and pleasing lines.
When Was Porsche Formed?
This company was launched way back in 1931, by Ferdinand Porsche. The company's first headquarters was located in Stuttgart. At the beginning, the firm provided consulting and motor development services. However, at that point in time, no autos were being manufactured under the Porsche brand.
One initial project of the newly-formed Porsche company was to create a "people's car" which was later named the Volkswagen and better known as the "Beetle". It is an auto design which has gone down in history. In 1939, Porsche developed an auto known as the Porsche 64 and it utilized a lot of the same components as the Beetle.
During WWII, Porsche produced an array of heavy tank designs. However, it failed to win an important contract for the building of these tanks. The military choose another company, Henschel & Son's, who produced tanks known as Tiger 1s.
Porsche didn't let its hard work on tank design go to waste. Instead, the company crafted a tank destroyer from its recycled designs. Also, during the war, the company created a military iteration of its classic Beetle. This design was called the Kubelwagen.
When the Second World War ended, the British took over the Volkswagen factory in Germany. Ferdinand was no longer able to hold his post at the board's chairman. Instead, an army major for the British, Ivan Hirst, was given the post.
The company's role as a provider of military vehicles, as well as the famous Beetle, cemented its reputation. Its autos feature the coat of arms of the Free People's State of Wurtemberg, for the former Weimar Germany. Stuttgart was the capital of Weimar Germany.
Porsche Autos are High-performance Vehicles
During the 1960s, the company produced classic sports cars which were racy and beautiful to behold. Today, the company provides exceptional sports cars in the high-end price niche, as well as a sport utility vehicle with many luxurious elements. This sport utility vehicle is known as the Porsche Cayenne.
